Weekend Networking and Learning in Hartford CT

April 8, 2019 By Karen Callahan

Shannon Crotty talks about the bricks in our lives, the peaks we need to climb, the seas we need to swimNormally my life is all #WordPress all the time. Not this weekend!

This weekend I took time to expand my connections and create deeper connections with a bunch of women with whom I network every month. We belong to a group called Polka Dot Powerhouse (PDP). PDP is an international group that has 3500 members spread throughout the world.

This conference was in Hartford CT. I drove down Friday night so that I would be well-rested for the full day on Saturday. I met a number of women from other states. PA was well represented as were MA and CT.

Here’s a little slideshow that captures some of the moments.

PDP founder, Shannon Crotty welcomes the 2019 Sisterhood Summit attendees Shannon Crotty tells the story of the "Polka Dot Powerhouse" name Shannon Crotty talks about the bricks in our lives, the peaks we need to climb, the seas we need to swim Michelle Holmes Mercier, Worcester Area Managing Director, telling her story Michelle Holmes Mercier introduces next speaker, Christine Gallo Me and fun-loving table mate Denise Ciancia striking a pose.

My favorite take away came from the third slide; the ocean, the mountains, and the bricks. Of course, there are anecdotes that accompany each image. One thing that stuck with me was the image of the bricks. I interpreted the message as:

We are all challenged with hurdles and bricks in our lives. We can stack them up into an impenetrable wall, or, we can lay them out in front of us to build our pathway to the future. I choose the pathway to the future. I liked the very simple graphics of a brick wall and a brick pathway.

Note to self:  How am I handling this brick?
