Afraid to upgrade WordPress? Didn’t know that WordPress needs to be regularly upgraded? You know, but you don’t know how to upgrade WordPress or you find upgrading WordPress nerve-racking and unpleasant?
This WordPress Upgrades package is for WordPress website owners who want to focus on their strength – writing, and leave the WordPress core upgrades to a technician.
Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security. Just because WordPress continues to work when you ignore the “Update Now” nags, doesn’t mean that you should leave it at a previous version.
WordPress is “open software”. As such, the code is available for everyone to read and use; well-intentioned plugin developers as well as mal-intentioned hackers.
To protect against hackers, WordPress releases new code approximately every 6 – 8 weeks (see the WordPress Releases Archive). When a version of WordPress is released, the authors of plugins and themes need to update their software as well so that it works with the new release of WordPress.
Why Keep WordPress Up to Date?
WordPress websites with old code become vulnerable to hackers. Old code is frequently exploited by hackers for malicious activities like taking over your website and displaying undesirable content, planting viruses in your website that will infect each visitor to your website, loading programs with viruses (Trojans) on Administrators’ desktops, and the like.
Not only can the WordPress core files get old, but… Do you know what your website developers left behind in your website hosting account? Could there be multiple versions of your website? of a section of your website? or previous versions of pages? unused themes that were tested during development? These stagnant pages and files have dates that let hackers know the last time they were updated. (See 2 tips to make your WordPress website less attractive to hackers).
How long has it been? Are your old files inadvertently creating a covert playground for a hack attack? First line of defence is to keep your software upgraded, and that is the purpose of this package.

Will this Package Keep Your Website from Being Hacked?
No. This is like locking the doors and windows to your house. It is an inexpensive first line of defence that makes it more difficult for burglars to gain entry. However, in the event that the website is hacked, it will be less expensive to recover. Why? A recent backup will be readily available, and there will be fewer files to examine (in order to find the breach) and fix (if possible). Fewer files and backup at hand = less time = fewer dollars to recover from being hacked.
